About Every Town in Georgia
Every Town in Georgia is a snapshot of Georgia towns, communities, places, sights, and things. After growing up in the state’s largest college town, and building a life in its largest city, I’m exploring the rest of my home state with the aim of becoming a better, more-traveled citizen. Over the next decade or two, I’ll visit every town in Georgia, and post at least a photo or two for each one.
This project owes a huge debt of gratitude (and maybe apologies) to several sources of inspiration, creativity, education, and motivation. These include Brian Brown and his wonderful site, Vanishing Georgia; Wilbur Caldwell, author of the Courthouse and the Depot in Georgia, 1833-1910: The Architecture of Hope in an Age of Despair; and Kenneth Krakow, author of Georgia Place Names.
A note on the word “town:” this project will focus on incorporated places like towns. But it will also feature unincorporated communities, crossroads, big cities, parks, nature, and more. Everything is filed in the photos section and tagged with place name, county, and other attributes – when in doubt, use the search.
